Plastic Drawer Revamp

Plastic Drawers Make Over

I (like almost everyone else) have some of those clear, plastic drawers. As handy as they are for storage, having all your crap visible is kind of..well, crappy looking.  So I got some scrapbook paper from Michael’s and Mod Podge. I cut the paper to fit the inside of the drawer. Then with a paint brush, I spread a layer of Mod Podge on the inside of the drawer. Then laid the paper on top of it and smoothed out any bubbles. Then I spread a good layer of Mod Podge on top of the paper and let it dry. I did this a few more times for durability. And there you have it. Not so ugly to look at now. :-)

Corona Beer Bottle Drinking Glass

Corona Drinking Glasses

Tonight we made glasses out of old beer bottles we had around. We tied some fingernail polish remover soaked yarn around the bottle and lit it on fire. Then rotated it to burn evenly for about 20-30 seconds then dipped it into a sink full or cold water. It usually broke on its own, but some times needed a little help. It didn’t always break evenly or exactly where I wanted it to, but I kept trying.  Eventually we got a few that were good. Then I sanded around the top with sandpaper to get rid of any sharp edges. They’re pretty snazzy little cups.

Pepperoni Casserole

Pepperoni Casserole

Tonight I made Pepperoni Casserole for dinner. I’m not huge on pepperoni, but the husband is, so I made it.  I thought it was actually pretty good and he loved it.  However this made waaaay too much food for just the two of us to eat.  We ended up leftovers for a long time.

Here’s the recipe I used:

  • 1 (16 ounce) package uncooked rotini pasta
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage ( I used regular sausage because I hate the fennel that’s in the Italian kind)
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar pasta sauce
  • 2 (12 ounce) containers cottage cheese
  • 1 (2.25 ounce) can sliced black olives
  • 12 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 (3 ounce) packages sliced pepperoni

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.  Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Place pasta in the pot, cook for 8 to 10 minutes, or until done, and drain.  In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until evenly brown.  In the prepared baking dish, mix the cooked pasta, sausage, and pasta sauce. In a bowl, mix the cottage cheese, olives, and mozzarella cheese. Spoon the cheese mixture over the sausage and pasta mixture.   Top with pepperoni slices.  Bake 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until bubbly and lightly browned.

Totoro Painting

Totoro Painting

Tonight I painted a Totoro canvas!  Most people who know me, know that I have somewhat of a Totoro obsession. 😛  So of course, I had to paint some. I’m not that skilled of an artist, but hey.

Javier

Javier

The husband and I participated in an art project where we were given a fortune cookie and boards that we had to paint based on the fortune we got.  My fortune was “Everything is possible; just not so probable.”   I thought forever on what to do. Finally, I was just like, ‘How about and elephant wearing a sombrero?’  That’s possible, but not probable, right? And there you have it. I call him, “Javier.”

Chandelier revamp after

Light Fixture Make Over

I love finding old things on Craigslist and redoing them.  This time I found an old chandelier light fixture for $3. It was kind of ugly looking, but I thought, ‘Hey, maybe I can fix it.’  So I brought it home, spray painted it black and hung some crystal things on it that I got from Hobby Lobby. All in all, it was really pretty simple. Except for the hanging it up part. I had to have my dad come over and help us with that.  Not fun.
